Firm History Daniells Phillips Vaughan & Bock was founded in 1956 by Leslie Watts when he opened his office in the Sill building at the corner of 18th and Chester Avenue. He operated as a sole practitioner until August 1, 1959 at which time Noel E. Daniells became his partner and the firm was known as Watts & Daniells, Certified Public Accountants. Shortly after the new partnership began, Thomas J. Phillips joined the firm as a team accountant making the team a total of six. In August 1961, Leslie Watts passed away and the business continued under the proprietorship name of Noel E. Daniells, CPA until January 1, 1964 at which time Thomas J. Phillips became a partner. Also in 1964, Frank Garner joined the firm and became a partner in 1966. In 1981, he left the firm and opened his own practice. Kenneth N. Vaughan joined the firm as a team accountant in 1968 growing the staff at that time to ten. It was also at that time that they out grew their office space and moved to 16th & G Streets. In 1972 Ken was admitted as a partner. On December 1, 1975, the firm began doing business as a corporation. During this period a new supervisory level was added to the firm structure. In 1976, it became time to move once again due to the growth of the firm and in January 1977 the firm relocated to its present quarters of 300 New Stine Road. In May 1977, James H. Bock joined the firm as a supervisor and in 1979 Jim became the firms’ fourth partner. The personnel now totaled twenty. Also in May of 1977, Richard Phillips joined the firm as a team accountant and in July 1, 1984 became a partner of the firm. In 1992 Rick left the firm to become a sole practitioner. In 1984, David Bedke joined the firm’s tax department. In July 1989, he was admitted as a partner and serves as our tax specialist/consultant. Also in 1984 Nancy Belton joined the firm. In July 1990, Nancy became a partner specializing in accounting and audit and has become known for her comprehensive audit approach in a variety of industries throughout the community. In an historic move for the firm, the local office of a national firm was merged into our organization in December 1985. At that time the firm then had 42 employees. The firm also completed the total remodeling of our office space and expansion. On July 1, 1987, the firm merged with Nicholas & Company which had a long and distinguished history in Kern County. David Nicholas became a partner and brought with him a team of six bringing our total personnel to 50. In 1990 Thomas Phillips retired from the firm and in 1991, Jim Bock was named as managing partner of the firm.In January 1994, the firm joined the McGladrey Network . This alliance gave us access to personnel and expertise that we would not otherwise have. In 1996, Noel Daniells retired from the firm.On August 1, 2000 the firm merged with Henderson Berntson & Company. Maria Berntson, nationally recognized for her business development strategies, became a partner . On August 1, 2001 Patrick Paggi, manager with the firms financial reporting services department and David Dixon, a member of the firms consulting services department, become partners in the firm. On November 1, 2001, the firm merged again with R.
Randall Richardson. Randy was admitted as the firm’s 9th partner
and he also serves as a taxation specialist. On August 31, 2003 David S.Dixon leaves the firm to pursue other interests. On September 30, 2005, Maria Berntson leaves the firm to pursue other interests in Ventura, California. |
